How IELTS Band Scores Are Calculated

Your IELTS overall band score is the average of your four module scores, rounded to the nearest whole or half band. For example, if your scores are Listening 7.0, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0, and Speaking 7.0, the average is 6.625, which rounds up to 6.5.

The rounding rule: if the average ends in .25, it rounds up to the next half band. If it ends in .75, it rounds up to the next whole band. For instance, an average of 6.75 becomes 7.0, while 6.25 becomes 6.5.
